OK so I'm sure 80% of you out there kinda did a 'ummmm, what?!?' when hirstute actor Joaquin Pheonix announced that he was quitting acting forever (sob...have you seen 'Walk the Line'?) to become a hard core rap artist...yeah........and the director of his 'documentary' about this so called journey, Casey Affleck, has admitted to the New York Times (no less) it was all a set up and that Joaquin was in fact just playing another character "It's a terrific performance, it's the performance of his career". The movie is entitled 'I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Pheonix'
You have to admit though that he is a fantastic method actor, what with the various racous appearances, drunk and drugged antics (real or fake??) & most famously his weird interview on Letterman. In a perverse way, it will be interesting to see how the next interview goes, as Pheonix is headed back into the Letterman hotseat on 22 September. Now that the movie is done and in the cinemas, the ruse has been lifted and given that Letterman was NOT in on the joke last time, it is building up to be a very interesting interview indeed.
What do you think, is this a genius show of film making or are you just over it already?
